Foreign students of our university took active part in the events dedicated to the 70th Anniversary of defeat of fascist armies at Stalingrad.
After all the events of Stalingrad battle can leave nobody indifferent even a foreigner from any other country. During the Battle of Stalingrad our city was completely destroyed. About 34,5 thousand of soldiers upon termination of fight were buried on Mamaev Hill too. It became the bed of honour.
On January 25, foreign students of VolgSMU from Malaysia were invited to the children's library n.a. A.S. Pushkin to take part in events, dedicated to the great battle. The students got acquainted with the library there, learned a lot about the World War II and its heroes.
At a thematic joint class in Russian students got acquainted with history of constructing of the legendary memorial complex and learned about the main sculptural compositions of the memorial.
On January 30, first-year students visited the museum "The Battle of Stalingrad".
On January 31, students from India, Malaysia and Azerbaijan became active participants of literary and musical composition within the literary and musical conference devoted to the heroes of Stalingrad.
Full of emotions they recited poems in Russian about Stalingrad battle and its heroes.
The distinguished doctor, the surgeon, former Dean of the Department for foreign students, N. G. Merkulov became the guest of honor of the event. Nikolay Grigoryevich told that he was an eyewitness of Stalingrad events and still keeps in mind the bright memories of those hard years.
Finally all the guests took part in flower-laying ceremony at the Eternal Flame on Pavshikh Bortsov Sq. On February 1, first-year students from Malaysia and India visited Watch of Memory which took place at a memorial monument "Gasitel" (Quencher). The steamship "Gasitel" being on the bank of Volga in a valley of the Tsaritsa river, is the real participant of operations, the veteran of the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War. During the Battle of Stalingrad "Gasitel" worked at crossings carried out tasks of transfer of armies, delivery of freights, evacuations of residents. In the middle of October "Gasitel" sank. But in 1943 the it was lifted and repaired. After the war the ship was restored and became an open-air museum.
Besides, on February 1, foreign students visited a concert prepared by the Russian students. On February 2, they could look at parade of armies in honor of the victory at the Battle of Stalingrad.
We hope these events helped foreign students to know more about Russian history and culture, more about heroism and courage of Stalingrad heroes.
