Visit of the delegation of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences

On May 28-31, 2006 the Volgograd State Medical University hosted the delegation of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (USA), headed by Dr. Cranford, Vice-Chancellor for Regional Programmes, UAMS. The other members of the delegation were Dr. Lowery, Director, Centre of Reproductive Health; Dr. Acklin, Director, Programmes for Primary Care Physicians; Dr. Bynum, Director, Regional Programmes and Telemedicine and Ms. Levitskaya, Russian-American Programmes Liaison.

The main topics for discussion were the issues of reproductive health, treatment of HIV/AIDS patients in Family Medicine, Rural Hospitals Network and Telemedicine. New directions in the Family Medicine Educational Programmes were also under discussion.

In the framework of the visit there was held the telesession on the issues of prevention of early pregnancy programs for school children.

Professor Vladimir I. Petrov and Dr. Cranford signed the agreement on the further cooperative relationship between VolSMU and UAMS. It says that both of the universities will focus on the development of the affiliation programme to meet the VolSMU and UAMS needs with an emphasis training and upgrading primary care (family medicine) physicians, as well as in the area of reproductive health and family planning, cardiology, endocrinology, TB control, HIV/AIDS in order to meet community needs and improve the quality of medical services.
