Opening of the Russian-American Clinic for Family Medicine

The Volgograd State Medical University has been affiliating with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for more than 15 years. All this time these two universities have been collaborating for improvement of health services providing to citizens of their countries. The projects grown by this partnership have enriched the curriculum and research programmes of the both Universities. It is known that in the USA the great attention is paid to family medicine when one doctor sees a patient from his birth and for all his life. In our country there used to be such an experience. That’s why it was made a decision to establish a Russian-American Clinic for Family Medicine in Volgograd.

The opening ceremony visited by the Administration of Volgograd region and the city of Volgograd and representatives of the universities and numerous guests was held on the 1st of December, 2006. Dr. Vladimir I. Petrov, Chancellor, VolSMU stressed that the Clinic of Family Medicine would be a good project for our students who would be able to have medical practice there. The clinic is equipped with up-to-date diagnostic units, which are arranged for providing health services to patients.

Mr. Nikolai K. Maksyta, the Governor of the Volgograd region marked that our region needed the medical facilities of that kind.

Dr. Charles O. Cranford, Vice-Chancellor, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences mentioned that the Clinic of Family Medicine was a facility of international level and invited everybody to get medical aid there.
