Russian-American workshop on the issues of postdiploma education

On May 5-10, 2008 the Volgograd State Medical University hosted the delegation of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (USA). Such visits depict one of the forms of collaboration and development of partnership between our universities.

In the framework of the visit there was held the workshop on the issues of postdiploma education in Russia and the USA. Based on current information, participants were enabled to discuss the problems of arrangement postdiploma education. The main objectives for discussion were the structures of residency programme curriculum, the criteria of the postdiploma education, the ways of getting these criteria, residents’ work evaluation. Teaching methods used in small group, clinical rounds, didactic sessions, conferences, videotaping were also under discussion. Within the workshop Deans, Heads of the students’ departments and the departments for postdiploma education of the VolSMU had an opportunity to compare two systems of postdiploma education and to find the advantages in each one.
